Brooklyn Middle STEAM School nutrition worker surprised with award

Nutrition services worker Sandy Hirdler’s morning was off to a normal start on May 1 when she was surprised with a barrage of visitors, who presented her with the 2024 Midwest Manager of the Year award.

The assembled crowd, including BMS staff, Hirdler’s co-workers, district nutrition services staff and the vice president of the Minnesota School Nutrition Association (MSNA), showered her with praise, saying how proud they are to work with her, how she makes their work environment so positive, is always ready to help and how much the BMS students love her.

“On behalf of all Brooklyn Middle STEAM School staff and students, we are so proud that you are part of our Bulldog family, and that you make it such a welcoming environment for our kids to enjoy their meal together,” said BMS principal Kim Monette. “You always have a positive attitude that you bring forth to everyone you meet.”

“Thank you for all of your support and your influence and your guidance you have given me,” Hirdler said in response. “I literally love coming to work every day. I love being part of the Brooklyn Middle team - it makes me so happy.”

Hirdler will be formally recognized for her award at the MSNA state conference event in August.
