Middle school orchestra students unite for Minneapolis Convention Center performance
Eighth grade orchestra students from the district’s four middle schools come together each year to create one massive orchestra for one day, which includes a performance for family and friends after a full day of rehearsals.
This year, the middle school orchestra directors applied for and received the opportunity to have their festival orchestra perform at the Minnesota Music Education Association (MMEA) Mid-Winter Clinic conference. On Feb. 14, all 164 of the district’s eighth grade orchestra members traveled to the Minneapolis Convention Center to perform at the conference.
“The students got to peruse the exhibit hall and see the many music companies who put on displays and demonstrations,” said Brooklyn Middle STEAM School orchestra director, Andrew Meyer. “They got to see performances by other schools at the conference. Then, they performed nine diverse and challenging orchestral pieces for an audience of educators, music professionals, family, and friends.”
