Brooklyn Middle STEAM School hosts first all-school career day
On Jan. 22, Brooklyn Middle STEAM School welcomed nearly 40 community members into the building as guest speakers for their annual College and Career Day. This year, the school’s career fair expanded from an eighth grade event only to an all-school event.
For the first half of the day, sixth graders learned about different college and trade school experiences from current students, and seventh and eighth graders learned about different career pathways from a variety of career professionals.
The presenters’ careers spanned a wide range of options, including construction trades, realtors, doctors and dentists, digital engineers, photographers, nurses, chefs and different business roles such as a communications director, equity coordinator and account manager.
The afternoon involved writing thank you cards to presenters, taking a college major and career inventory survey, virtually exploring various college campuses, and researching careers of choice. School leaders said students will continue this discussion of different post-secondary pathways with their families at the "Leaders of Tomorrow Fair" hosted during winter conferences at the end of January.
